After Care Guide: Extending the Life of Your Garments
Tuesday 2 September 2025
At Edberg Fashion, we believe sustainability in fashion doesn’t end once a garment leaves the factory. It begins with high-quality, responsibly made materials, and continues with how you care for them.
Extending the lifespan of clothing is one of the most impactful ways to reduce the consumption of raw materials, energy use, and CO₂ emissions. By making garments last longer, we help minimise waste and build a more circular fashion industry.
This Garment After Care Guide offers practical, straightforward tips for washing and caring for some of the most common fabrics used in everyday collections: cotton, viscose/rayon, modal/lyocell, and linen. With the right care, your garments will stay beautiful, functional, and sustainable for years to come.
Cotton: Strong with the Right Care
Cotton is one of the most widely used natural fibres: breathable, durable, and versatile. However, it can shrink or fade if not washed correctly.
Care tips:
- Wash at a maximum of 30–40°C with a mild detergent.
- Avoid bleach and choose liquid detergent to preserve colour.
- Air-dry whenever possible to protect the fibres.
- Iron on medium heat, ideally while the garment is still slightly damp.
Viscose & Rayon: Soft and Delicate
Viscose and rayon are semi-synthetic fibres made from natural sources. They are lightweight and comfortable but can be fragile, especially when wet.
Care tips:
- Hand wash when possible; otherwise, use a gentle cycle at 30°C.
- Turn garments inside out to reduce fading.
- Avoid wringing or heavy spinning to prevent distortion.
- Dry flat and never use a tumble dryer.
- Iron on low heat with a pressing cloth for best results.
Modal & Lyocell: Luxurious and Sustainable
Derived from sustainably sourced wood pulp, modal and lyocell are soft, breathable, and strong. They are designed to last, with the right maintenance.
Care tips:
- Wash on a gentle cycle at a maximum of 40°C.
- Use a mild detergent free from harsh chemicals.
- Hang or lay flat to dry; avoid tumble drying to maintain fibre strength.
- If ironing is needed, use low heat.
Linen: Natural and Robust
Linen, made from flax, is strong, breathable, and becomes softer with wear. It’s one of the most sustainable natural fibres.
Care tips:
- Wash at a maximum of 40°C with a mild detergent; avoid long soaking.
- Air-dry by hanging or laying flat to minimise creasing.
- Iron on high heat, ideally while still slightly damp.
